About DU CSAS — What Is It?

The Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) is the official centralised online admission portal of the University of Delhi (UoD). Introduced to replace fragmented college-level applications, CSAS is the single window through which all undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats are allocated across Delhi University's constituent colleges and departments.

For UG, the portal operates at admission.uod.ac.in

The Three-Phase CSAS Process (UG)

The entire DU UG admission process is divided into three sequential phases on the CSAS portal. Missing any phase deadline can result in losing the admission opportunity.

Phase I — Registration & Profile Submission

Expected to open: ~June 17, 2026 at admission.uod.ac.in

  • Visit the CSAS UG portal and click "New Registration".
  • Enter CUET UG 2026 application number, roll number, and date of birth.
  • Create a 12-character password (must include a symbol).
  • Personal and academic details are auto-fetched from the NTA (CUET) database.
  • Enter stream: Science / Commerce / Arts — determines which programme list loads.
  • Upload photograph (< 50 KB, white background), scanned signature (< 20 KB).
  • Upload category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) as a merged PDF if applicable.
  • Pay the non-refundable registration fee online (Credit/Debit/Net Banking/UPI).
  • CSAS Phase 1 may run parallel to CUET UG exams, allowing early registration.

Phase II — College & Programme Preference Filling

Opens after CUET UG 2026 results are declared (expected June/July 2026).

  • Log back into the CSAS portal using CUET credentials.
  • Select College + Programme combinations in your preferred order of priority.
  • The portal allows 200+ combinations — this is the most critical step.
  • DU publishes preference counts (updated every 2 hours) — visible to all candidates.
  • DU releases Simulated Ranks based on CUET scores before final seat allotment.
  • Candidates may re-order preferences after viewing simulated ranks (within a short window).
  • Export/save a PDF copy of your final preference list after locking.

Phase III — Seat Allocation, Acceptance & Admission

Multiple allocation rounds are conducted. Candidates have a choice each round:

  • FREEZE: Accept the allotted seat and conclude the process.
  • UPGRADE: Accept the current seat but remain eligible for a better preference in the next round.
  • REJECT: Decline the allotment; you may still participate in subsequent rounds.
  • After accepting a seat, candidates must complete document verification at the allotted college.
  • Admission fee must be paid online within the specified deadline — no extensions given.
  • Non-payment or non-submission of documents results in automatic cancellation of admission.

Spot Rounds

After the regular allotment rounds, Spot Rounds are conducted for vacant seats:

  • Spot Round 1: Expected ~July 29, 2026. Only colleges with up to 2% vacancy participate.
  • Spot Round 2: Expected ~August 5, 2026, if seats remain.
  • Typically available for: Science courses in off-campus colleges, some BA Programme seats, rare BCom (Hons).
  • Seat acceptance in Spot Rounds is FINAL — no refund policy applies.
  • Carry original marksheet and demand draft when attending spot rounds.

How Seat Allocation Works

DU's CSAS uses a centralised algorithm to allocate seats. Understanding the logic helps candidates make better preference choices.

  • Merit is based solely on CUET UG normalised scores provided by NTA.
  • No weightage to Class XII marks for regular college admissions.
  • The system allocates the highest possible preference first, then moves down the list.
  • If a higher preference frees up in a later round (Upgrade option), the candidate can be moved.
  • All updates on cut-offs, seat matrix, and vacant seats are published only on the CSAS dashboard.
  • Preference count (number of applicants for each College-Programme) is shown in real-time on the portal (updated every 2 hours).
  • Simulated Ranks are released before Round 1 to help candidates gauge their chances and reorder preferences.
  • After the final round, any remaining vacant seats go to Spot Rounds.

Freeze vs Upgrade vs Reject

ChoiceMeaningImplication
FREEZEAccept the allotted seat permanently and exit the counselling processNo further upgradation
UPGRADEAccept current allotment but remain eligible for a higher preference in the next roundCurrent seat held; may move up
REJECTDecline current allotment; remain in the pool for subsequent roundsRisky — no guarantee of future allotment
NO ACTIONFailure to respond within the deadlineAllotment is auto-cancelled

Warning: Non-payment of fees or non-submission of documents leads to automatic cancellation with no extensions. Mark every deadline in your calendar.

FAQFrequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the DU CSAS process and how is it different from previous years?

The DU CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) is the centralized online portal for undergraduate admissions to Delhi University based on CUET (UG) scores. It was introduced to standardize and streamline the admission process, replacing the previous system that relied primarily on Class 12th marks. For 2026, it will continue to be the sole gateway for admissions to all DU UG programs.

Q: Can I edit my program and college preferences after submitting them in CSAS?

Generally, DU provides a specific window for editing preferences before the final locking. However, once preferences are locked and the first allocation round begins, you cannot typically change them. It's crucial to finalize your choices carefully during the initial window. MatchToCollege helps you strategize and optimize this list before submission.
